For The Love!
Happy Valentine’s Day! This was my daughter’s FIRST official V-Day. Young love is the sweetestโฆ.๐
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Yesterday was my husband and my engagement-aversary. Hubs proposed to me 21 years ago, which seems like yesterday. Originally he intended to propose to me on Valentine’s Day but he got excited and did it a day early. The fact that he was that excited to propose to me is sweet, and it’s making me smile as I’m thinking about it right now.
We aren’t big Valentine’s Day people in this house but we still make an effort to give each other some love. My husband is way better at Valentine’s Day than I am and always has been, which is weird since I’m the more romantic of the two. We agreed years ago not to give each other gifts for V-Day but every year I wake up to a sweet card by the coffee pot, some sort of flower delivery will come mid-morning, and then we’ll stay home and have a really nice dinner. This is our standard Valentine’s Day. I stick to the no gifts thing and wear some sort of festive love themed outfit. *festive is my middle name* I offer a card or a handwritten note, I cook the nice dinner for him, make him a heart-shaped cheesecake, and I give him all the extra love I can.
Valentine’s Day isn’t a big deal, but it’s kind of a big deal when you’re newly in love, right? Then as you’ve been together for a while you inevitably make the no gift pact and have a pretty standard day with a few extra kisses.
I’m excited about this Valentine’s Day mostly for my daughter. Today will be her first real Valentine’s Day date because her new boyfriend continues to prove how sweet and thoughtful he is. He made dinner reservations for 4:45 at a local steak house, and called and invited her to go out for a nice dinner. I think this is the sweetest because what 16-year-old does these things for their girlfriend? He picked out his outfit like a week ago and plans to dress up a little and will pay for their steak dinner on his own. I love the effort he makes for her, and it’s genuine which is the best part. I’m a little nervous that he might propose at dinner, but he has not asked our permission so I think we’re probably safe for now. ๐ *Although, I’d be thrilled if he ended up being my son in law someday.*
I love that he is teaching our daughter that there really are nice, thoughtful guys out there; guys who will make an effort to take you to a nice steak dinner even if the only open reservations are at 4:45, and you blow $100+ of your own teenage money. That’s a lot of money in general, but especially when you’re 16 and don’t have an official job yet. She would have been equally excited to go to Taco Bell, but he insisted๐. I love that he picked out his outfit a week ago because he was excited. Nothing makes me happier than seeing the pure joy on my daughter’s face when her boyfriend makes these efforts for her. That’s what I’m looking forward to tonight. *and the heart-shaped cheesecake*
I don’t care about Valentine’s Day that much, but I still love – love. I’ll probably light candles and listen to my boyfriend, Lionel Richie, all day as I write the handwritten note to my man and prepare the nice dinner. There is no one better at love than my man, Lionel, and together we will make an effort to bust out our Loving Pants today.
I hope someone makes an effort to show you some love today, even if it’s just a tighter hug or a sweet “I love you” text. If you’re alone this Valentine’s Day go on Facebook or Instagram and look up Trey Kennedy/John Crist videos. They did a “single girls on Valentine’s day” yesterday and it was HILARIOUS! It’s impossible not to laugh. Have a good day, lovies!
